This 1988 Honda Acty is a rear-wheel drive Japanese Kei pickup powered by a 550cc three-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. This example comes from the earliest iteration of the second generation Acty and was produced for only two years. This RHD truck has just over 64k kilometers (~40k miles) and was recently imported by the seller, who describes it as unmodified and great for hauling small loads or garnering attention at local events. The truck reportedly wears a recent sticker for the stringent Japanese Shaken inspection and is sold with import documentation along with a Maryland title in the seller’s name.
At just ten and a half feet long, the diminutive truck can reportedly handle a payload of nearly 800 pounds. No accident history is reported by the seller and original body panels are described as straight apart from a handful of minor dings, slight damage at the lower edge of the driver’s door, and a scuff on the lower passenger-side. Both doors line up well and are said to open and close easily with good seals. The tailgate and flip-down bed sides are also reported to operate smoothly.
White paint is said to be original and shines well up front, while the rear load area shows more evidence of use including assorted chips and scratches. Minor surface corrosion is reportedly limited to the under-mounted battery holder and where paint has been worn to bare metal on the bed. Painted steel wheels show mild chipping and are missing a cap on the right rear.
Black trim looks evenly colored and free of distortion or meaningful damage throughout, including around the signature round headlights of the early second-gen “smiley” body style. Remaining lenses are also in nice shape with no cracks or condensation visible in photos.
The utilitarian interior has held up well, remaining largely complete and presentable despite evidence of regular use. Seats show only light marking along with slight seam separation on the driver’s cushion, which also wears a factory vinyl patch to combat entry and egress wear. The headliner is said to be in good condition, while the rubber floor mats show a worn-through area under the driver’s feet. The plastic dash looks free of cracks or distortion and both door panels are similarly presentable with occasional fading.
The stock steering wheel looks nearly unworn along with other controls and brightly-lettered switchgear. Simple, clear instruments include fuel and temp gauges along with an array of warning lights flanking a large speedo with a printed shift point indicator. The factory AM radio is said to work well along with all other accessories including lights, turn signals, wipers, defroster, and heater. The center vents are broken from an aftermarket cupholder.
A 550cc three-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are mounted just ahead of the rear wheels for better weight distribution and traction compared to contemporary Kei trucks. The engine starts quickly, runs quietly, and idles smoothly with good power and no undue smoke or notable leaks according to the seller. The truck is said to routinely achieve 40-50 mpg and drive well with responsive steering, straight tracking, tight suspension, and strong brakes.
